ANNOUNCING THE 2007-2008 SEASON

David Labovitz, founder and director of the Choral Symphony Society, since 1964, describes his musical heritage as stemming from Tobias Matthay, Ferruccio Busoni, Arthur Schnabel, Edward Steurmann, having studied with their illustrious students; namely, Leroy B. Campbell, George Boyle, Frank Glazer, and Irwin Freundlich. At The Juilliard School, from which he was graduated, he studied piano with Irwin Freundlich, conducting with Julius Hereford, Richard Goldman and Sergius Kagen. To this impressive background, he credits his broad musical interests and appetite for all kinds of piano, orchestral, and choral performances.
The New York Cantata Singers, formed in 1992 as an outgrowth of the Choral Symphony Society, sixteen-voice professional ensemble, dedicated to performing Bach cantatas, Handel oratorios, and other works.

Interracial Fellowship Chorus, co-director, from 1947-1959 (dedicated to the fellowship of all peoples, joined together in singing.)
Master Institute Chorus, 1959-1964 (lodged in the landmark building of the Master Institute of Performing Arts, a multi-purpose museum and arts organization on the Upper West Side, termed an oasis of culture by the former representative Ryan.)
Choral Arts Foundation, directed chorus on Upper West Side in the Music Mansion.
New School Chorus, founder and director of a newly formed chorus.
Eastern Sinfonia, an instrumental group, performing in the New York area under the management of Albert Kay Associates.
Fordham University Chorus (NYC), music director (a community-based group in the Lincoln Center area)
Cantors Institute Men's Chorus, Jewish Theological Seminary, on music faculty - directed chorus and held classes in vocal coaching and theory.
Temple Israel of Great Neck, choral and music director
Doctors' Orchestra at the Mount Sinai Hospital, music director
